Alarming increasing in mental health issues among youth

There have been a number of studies and reports published showing alarming rates of mental health issues among younger Americans, including a recent CDC report showing that 57% of adolescent girls and 29% of adolescent boys felt increasingly sad and hopeless. The alliance was very concerned when they had seen this most recent study in JAMA showing the rate of pediatric mental health hospitalizations. According to JAMA, pediatric mental health hospitalizations increased by 25.8% and accounted for a higher proportion of pediatric hospitalizations, hospital days and transfers overall. The number of mental health hospitalizations where suicidality was indicated increased by 30.7% in 2019 and youth stayed longer for mental health hospitalizations in 2019.
